Connecting Communities

Community Transport

Helping our community to stay connected…

Locations:  Colchester | Chelmsford | Maldon

If getting around is difficult, our Community Transport service is here to help. Operating across Colchester, Chelmsford and Maldon, we provide affordable, reliable travel for people who may have limited mobility, live in rural areas, or risk becoming socially isolated.Working together we aim to bridge the transport inequality in Essex.

Our Community Transport Team runs the following projects in our community.

Group Bookings

We provide transport support to registered groups in Essex. This is open to groups to hire the buses or groups are provided with a driver for their trip. Speak to us if your group would like to hire a bus.

Our Social Excursions are group outings that bring people together to explore, connect, and enjoy shared experiences – bringing community to life one journey at a time. From visits to local landmarks and garden centres to pub lunches and mystery trips, there’s something for everyone. Last year, we delivered over 30,000 trips, with 87% of participants saying the programme helped them feel less isolated and more connected.

Our Shopping trips initiatives get people together to shop. This covers major supermarkets Sainsburys, Tescos, M&S and other seasonal and one off trips. We run trips throughout the year and trips are scheduled every week.

Community360 works closely with care homes to help residents stay active, connected, and engaged with the world around them. From trips to the cinema and visits to the seaside, to days out at local attractions, our community transport makes it possible for care home members to enjoy meaningful experiences beyond their residence. By partnering directly with care homes, we support wellbeing, reduce isolation, and bring joy to everyday life.

We provide transport that helps people attend local clubs and activities, working closely with organisations like Age Concern, Mencap, Leisure World and Essex Dementia Care Centre to ensure everyone can stay active and connected.

This is our flexible, door-to-door transport service designed to tackle transport inequality and support vulnerable people in our community. Members can arrange journeys for healthcare, shopping, and everyday needs at times that suit them. In 2024–25, we completed over 15,000 trips, with 92% of users saying the service gave them greater independence and a better quality of life.
