Macmillan Community Voices Project

In early 2024, Community360 was thrilled to be commissioned by Macmillan Cancer Support to undertake a project called Macmillan Community Voices. As a result, our programme has been delivered across Essex since the Spring of 2024.  

The Macmillan Community Voices Project amplifies the lived experiences of people affected by cancer. We’ve worked towards making impactful changes by bringing together people affected by cancer and supporting voluntary and community organisations to explore people’s experiences. 

Our research objectives are to;  

> Capture and understand lived experiences of people affected by cancer.  

> Engage underrepresented groups to promote equity and inclusion.  

> Strengthen partnerships to co-develop community-led solutions.  

> Identifying health inequalities (Scott and Hoskin, 2024) across spaces and places that support people affected by cancer 

Our work focuses on those living with cancer or those who have supported someone with cancer. But, we have been especially focused on working with groups in our communities who may be experiencing health inequalities, including ethnically diverse communities (inc. refugees), adults with learning disabilities, people with sensory loss, veterans, people experiencing socio-economic deprivation and challenges, and the LGBTQIA+ community. 

We have found that linking individuals and groups for collective action facilitates a platform for learning and collating evidence. We’re able to share experiences and information widely – making knowledge accessible and identifying and promoting access to additional resources. 

Our team is looking forward to disseminating what we have learnt and are still learning through a variety of events and activities in the coming months.
