Finding belonging through volunteering

Alison worked in education in London before moving to Colchester two years ago. Keen to get to know her new community, she started volunteering with Community360 and quickly loved the variety the role offered.

Alison now helps run Community360’s weekly women’s group, which brings people together and helps reduce isolation.

“It’s great as a volunteer – you get to meet people and really hear about their lives,” Alison says. “It’s given me a real sense of belonging in a place where I didn’t know many people. It’s all about community, and I love being part of it. I get a lot out of it too, and it feels good to give back.

“You meet all sorts of people, so you’re never stuck for something to do.”
